  • On it's second superb album, this New York quartet continues to invoke it's moniker... delving into deeply interactive improvisation that doesn't need to shout to be heard. 4.5 Stars

    Peter Margasak, Downbeat

  • Hush Point’s methods and musicianship are exemplary, setting the new standard for the pianoless jazz quartet.

    James Rozzi, Jazziz

  • an album of dry and intimate and surprising music, much of it a kind of X-rayed blues language, volume cut in half, swing rhythm subtly stretched into more up-to-date grooves, emotional dynamics present but suppressed. It’s also an extended experiment in careful improvising, using counterpoint to move quickly and unsentimentally toward the open spaces.

    Ben Ratliff, New York Times

  • The quartet’s newly released, self-titled début album is among the most substantial jazz releases of the year so far.

    The New Yorker

  • the band focuses on subtle interplay and refined melodic improvisation, demonstrating an elegant rapport too often lacking in jazz today.

    Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader

  • The foursome has a kinetic chemistry no less powerful for being kept under a constant, careful restraint.

    Shaun Brady, Downbeat

  • The quartet Hush Point conjures the possibilities of small group hipness. One that quips instead of guffaws, and prefers covertness to the obvious.

    Mark Corroto, All About Jazz

It takes time to develop a deep rapport within a jazz ensemble.

Fortunately, you can still find bands that invest the time to evolve as a unit. Trumpeter John McNeil and saxophonist Jeremy Udden established Hush Point as a group that does just that. Also including bassist Aryeh Kobrinsky and drummer Anthony Pinciotti, Hush Point is a working and rehearsing ensemble, and with two critically acclaimed albums under their belt, the group shows a cohesiveness of concept that is only achieved through hours of practice, performance and experimentation. The wide stylistic range of their repertoire is immediately striking to the listener.
